I feel the fire flare alight inside me

Poets of the Fall – Tulisuudelma, Vantaa; October 12th, 2012

I returned to the Tulisuudelma with mixed feelings. The last gig there had been fun, but somewhat strange or at least that’s what I remembered. I also remembered that it was just not good for taking pictures. Still, I was much looking forward to seeing my friends and the guys so I did the usual getting up early and going to the airport on yet another Friday morning while the rest of the city was either still sleeping or (mostly) on their way to work. The flight was uneventful, thanksto C. I had a good book to read and everything went smoothly after arrival too so I met P. as planned and was treated to tea and food at her home. 🙂

We chatted, until it was time to go, arrived way too early, met H. and S., relaxed and enjoyed the fact that we did not have to get in line already. When we finally did, we met Captain and Ollie, said hello briefly and were allowed in soon after. As usualthe music was a bit too loud, but time until midnight passed quickly and we were ready for the show.

I have no idea if they started on time or not, but it didn’t matter. What mattered was that everything was good about the gig. The Poets were in a great mood, very relaxed, apparently enjoying every minute of playing. The audience was quite relaxed too. No pushing and shovving, just happy people enjoying the music. The new setlist is an invitation to dance and jump around. There was not much standing still.

The new setlist works better every time I hear it. There is still some tweeking doen to the intro/outtros and sound effects in general, so it’s fun to listen for the little differences. I don’t think I caught many of them, but I had the genral feeling everything sounded more like one whole. I loved rocking out to the fast songs and just listening to the slower ones. 🙂 The stage was bigger than the previous two, so the guys had room to move and made much use of it.

So many times during the concert I looked at my friends next to me and smiled. So many times I got completely lost in the music. Details I cannot remember, but everything was fun. Captain was wearing not one, but for light rings in different colors. Since he was in the dark a lot they were quite visible and looked awesome. During the encores, Ollie had one too. Marko was being himself for once, not wearing any make-up this time.

As usual, I enjoyed watching the guys interact. They made lots of contact with the audience and they cheered them on. The new songs are getting better every time I hear them too. The one thing the new setlist has in common with the old is that it goes by much too fast. I felt the concert had barey started when they played ‘Lift’ already.

After the gig we hung out for a while, met Jani, Jaska and Ollie. We talked a bit and he confirmed my idea that they felt more comfortable with the new setlist now and enjoyed this gig a lot. This was a nice end to the night. 🙂
